Here’s What I’m (Planning On) Reading This Year

Falling Into The Fire by Christine Montross
Back in college, I read Body of Work: Meditations on Mortality from the Human Anatomy Lab by Christine Montross, and it was an eye-opening read, especially if you like 8th house-y stuff. She does does this very poetic thing where she speaks about medical / scientific stuff but makes it into modern-day Shakespeare.
The Inner Work: An Invitation to True Freedom and Lasting Happiness by Mathew Micheletti & Ashley Cottrell
Idk, ya’ll—this could be a bust, and I’m usually averse to those kinds of self-help books that guarantee you’ll be happy by the end. But I did come across someone reading from this book via TikTok, and whatever paragraph that they read hit me hard. I’ll give it a try.
Tiny Beautiful Things by Cheryl Strayed
So my favorite book that I read in 2022 was Cheryl Strayed’s memoir called Wild. From that point on, I became a Cheryl-Strayed stan account, and now I wanna read this advice-column style book. I’ve also been binging the Dear Sugars podcast, and this had to be my favorite episode.
So You Wanna Burn Your Life Down by Ash Bruxvoort
My super cool healer colleague Ash Gravity wrote a book & self-published it! They are my inspiration! You gotta read this one, Highly Sensitive People. It’s gunna be juicy. And give Ash a rating on amazon if you do end up reading :)
Professional Troublemaker: The Fear-Fighter Manual by Luvvie Ajayi Jones
My client told me she was reading this book in one of our sessions, and it sounded POWERFUL. There’s a lot about family narratives & the stories from our ancestors that we unconsciously end up living out. Right up my alley. Can’t wait to dig in.
101 Essays That Will Change the Way You Think by Brianna Wiest
Another good one that a different client told me about! She said the essays were impactful but short. So if you have a hard time with reading, this is one of those books that you could read a few pages each day before bed and still get something out of it.
Amateur: A Reckoning With Gender, Identity, and Masculinity by Thomas Page McBee
Nick Kepley let me borrow this book a while ago, and I’M FINALLY DIGGING IN. We love a good examination of masculinity through the queer lens. And Nick, if you’re reading this—HELLO. I WILL RETURN THIS BOOK SOON.
Thanks for reading, my friends! My sessions with all of you are always the best part of my day! 💜 Thank you for sharing your stories and vulnerabilities with me, you have taught me so much. Witch Church Live returns THIS SUNDAY (1/8) @ 10am central on my Insta (@_malloryhasty). See ya’ll there, squad! XOXO Mal
